Today revolved around tidying the house for the surprise party that Victoria had organised for Meg, and of course, not letting Meg know that was why I suddenly required a tidy house. Meg had to be got out of the house by around 12.30pm so that Victoria and I could get things organised. All sorts of elaborate plans were discussed, but then Michaela turned up and aske Meg to go to the cinema 12 til 2pm. With the party due to start at 3pm, this was a big help - except that Michaela had not been invited! Victoria had asked those that she felt were closest to Meg and after much unhappiness between Meg and Michaela over the past few months, that was fair enough. I then had to pick them up from the cinema, get Micky home and Meg to town to be occupied for another hour. We had hot chocolate to congratulate her for such a great report card, filled up the car with fuel and browsed around every department of the DIY shop, discussing everything from weed killer to sink design. Thankfully the time past and I got her home at the arranged time. She had been a bit low the last 3 days and I was worried about how she would cope and how Victoria would feel if all her hard work hadn't paid off. No such worries. She had a great night, and I just have to hope that there is not a terrible fall out from those who were not invited.
Meanwhile, Spook, Finn and I went to the Alpine Club session at the Film Festival. We sat through some nail-biting and moving films - a great way to avoid a teenagers party on a dampish afternoon. Even Finn learnt a thing or two, especially the gripping film of an epic trip from Siberia, over the NOrth Pole to Canada, which failed when global warming found them stuck on islands of ice with no way out. It was a smaller set-up than the Fort William Film Festival but conducted itself well and was excellent entertainment. So to0 was the night at Shannon and Steves. Unfortunately, Steves fine Scottish whisky came out and Spook no longer wished to accompany me home. It has taken 9 months to achieve that familiar scenario. Both families HAD plans to snowboard and ski tomorrow. I have to work for a couple of hours in the morning. It will be interesting to see who makes it on to the slopes. Shannon finally drove Spook home as she lacked faith in his homing device. He has been invited for breakfast tomorrow - I suspect that the enthusiasm for breakfast will be less sharp in the morning.
