I've posted this link again as it is our very favourite advert. It reminds us we have been here for almost a year, now that it is back on TV. We feel like we know these children now and our two can mimick the whole advert.
Meg is working on the impossible job of getting home everything she wants. At a 30kg allowance, there will be a few tears yet.
And tears aplenty all round, I think. Thomas is going to spend the weekend with us as time is running out. His Mum, Jane, has invited us to dinner on Saturday. I have known her since my 2nd week here when I stumbled upon her in the hairdressers. She was starting her 2nd year of her Barbours apprentice-ship which she has now successfully completed. She has always been a very warm source of support, and we have had many great chats on the rugby sidelines. Thomas's dad is one of the coaches. At least, as a Londoner, I know that she will get to our side of the world and we will see them again. I can picture Thomas, in those early days, walking around with a gentle hand hovering at Finns back. He has tried really hard to sort out Finn's table manners, telephone manner and chore-avoiding habit. He knows that his work is not done yet. Jane will set him up with Skype and he can keep trying.
I called in for a cup of tea with Mary Forfar after work. Her husband is in Scotland just now, trying to bring in the harvest and plant oil seed rape, but it seems to have been washed away. He is looking forward to coming back to summer. She says that the whole family will come back for a visit next year and now that her children don't live in Scotland anymore, they have a desire to visit Loch Ness, as people here have all heard of it and they have never been. So that means we should be able to catch up with them too. Her daugher Ellie is in Finns class and says they will all miss him as he is a big character. He is having a tea party next Friday, as Johanna his teacher will be away for his last week.
If it is hard to leave now, it would only be harder in another years time.
grateful for:
Spooks capacity for mopping up his daughters tears, which are never very far from the surface just now.
